The Challenge

When problems were identified in the main cables of the Forth Road Bridge, the need for a new solution linking Edinburgh with cities further north was clear. The Forth Replacement Crossing, centred on the iconic Queensferry Crossing, safeguards this vital transport link and the contribution it makes to the national economy.

The Solution

The project – the largest Scottish infrastructure project carried out for a generation – involved the construction of the longest three-tower cable-stayed bridge in the world and the tallest towers of any bridge in the UK. While it was under construction, the new bridge featured the longest pair of free-standing balanced cantilevers ever used as well as a world record continuous underwater concrete.
