Town Planners make decisions on the use of public space through designing new developments, enforcing legislation, assessing planning applications, protecting historic structures and assigning land suitable for development. Town Planners may specialise in particular disciplines such as urban design, regeneration or conservation. 

How do I get into this role?

Town Planners generally require a degree and can work towards Chartered status with the Royal Institute of Town Planners. Entry level positions may be available through apprenticeships.
